Whistler Blackcomb is consistently rated in the top 5 resorts in North America, not only for expert riders, but for beginners as well. Of Whistler mountain's 4700 acres, 20% is rated as beginner terrain. This equals just under 1000 acres, which is bigger then some other resorts (Aspen has a total of 675 acres). Combine that with the approximate 500 acres of beginner terrain on Blackcomb mountain, and you begin to see why Whistler Blackcomb gets rated so high year after year. It will a take a whole week for most beginners to explore all that terrain. Once you progress onto the Intermediate runs, you will quadrupled the area in which to ride. The amount of terrain we are talking about is approaching 6000 acres, which is more than any other resort in North America has in total, including places such as Vail (5300), Heavenly (4800) and Mammoth (3500).
One of the more scenic beginner runs is on Whistler mountain. It is 11 klm / 7 miles long, and meanders around the back of Harmony Ridge (in an area known as Symphony bowl) and down to the Olympic Station (a favorite beginner zone), which allows visitors to experience some amazing scenery. Some of the views you will see include; Black Tusk and its adjacent mountain range, Fissle Peak, the 7th Heaven zone on Blackcomb mountain and numerous other peaks and glaciers. Once in Whistler, look up the 'Burnt Stew Trail' on the trail map to enjoy this epic journey.
